Early Bird Catches the Worm
A leading breakfast cereal manufacturer has taken early advantage of their unique Optimised Energy Solutions. The multinational company had amassed an extensive list of potential energy improvement measures. Whilst many of these opportunities will provide real savings in both energy cost and reduced carbon emissions it was not so clear in which order they should be implemented. With a total annual energy bill of £5.5M, the need for reducing total energy costs and lowering carbon emissions was obvious. However the forward looking management team recognised that the most beneficial way in which to implement these opportunities was less apparent. The Optimisation Process identified the priority measures for immediate implementation, with the remainder to be realised in the most beneficial sequence as part of the ongoing strategy. This energy user now looks forward to realising total energy related cost savings of over £2M per annum, by early 2011. As a consequence carbon emissions will be reduced by 17,000 T/annum.
Clearer Vision than Cats Eyes
Think of British motorways and your first thought may be the inconvenience brought on by the severe weather during early 2010. But did you know that there is a medium term strategy being put in place to reduce energy costs and lower carbon emissions on our major highways? With so many opportunities to use energy more efficiently it is essential that public sector monies are used to best effect. Recognising that the right information at the right time at the right level is the fast track to success, the Optimisation Process is being used to provide the vision to enable accurate decision making and achieve enhanced results. Whilst other energy users may be pausing in a lay-by and considering what to do next, the Optimisation Process provides a clear route map on how to accelerate the energy user towards a low carbon future.
They’re Out There
Every energy user has its own unique Optimised Energy Solutions; for most the difficulty is in identifying and then realising them. So whether the facility is established or new, whether previous improvements have been made or not, there are Optimised Energy Solutions still to be put in place. It’s never too early or too late. Take MediaCity UK in Manchester for example. With the first phases of this major project now approaching completion, the techniques within the Optimisation Process are being used to identify and realise additional energy cost savings and further reductions in carbon emissions. So wherever energy is being used, the starting point is to understand that Optimised Energy Solutions are out there, even during the construction phase.
Helping Energy Companies Too!
Not all energy users have the same immediate priorities so it’s refreshing to know that whether it’s energy costs, the environment or security of energy supply, the Optimisation Process addresses the needs of each. This is true in the petrochemical industry too, where techniques within the Optimisation Process are being used to enhance security of energy supply at a recently completed LNG terminal, South Wales. The comparison and analysis techniques lend themselves to prioritising the energy user’s needs in order to achieve maximum overall benefit. |
